Chevrolet Equinox II generation: review of the model and restyled version

The first generation of Chevrolet Equinox crossovers is appreciated by our compatriots. Those who were lucky enough to own an American SUV in 2004-2008 call the car reliable and practical. The second generation (2009-2017), like the first one, turned out to be popular in the American market itself, for which, in fact, Equinox was created. Officially, the car was not delivered to the Russian market.

Sales volumes in the US market were impressive: in 2006 – 130 thousand, in 2015 – 278 thousand copies. In total, more than 2 million Chevrolet Equinox models have been sold since the launch. In 2015, the Equinox II became Chevrolet’s second most popular vehicle, losing first place in terms of sales to the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck (600,000 units sold).

Description of the second generation model (2009-2015)

The 2nd generation crossover was introduced to the North American public in 2010, although production was actually launched in 2009. What characteristics made the car popular?

Specifications

The previous platform was used – the front-wheel drive Theta, but the manufacturer finalized it. As a result, the length of the car was reduced from 4795 to 4771 mm, and the width increased from 1814 to 1842 mm. For greater stability, the width of the front track was increased: from 1565 to 1587 mm (the width of the rear remained the same). Ground clearance decreased from 201 to 199 mm.

The first generation cars were equipped with a 3.4-liter engine with a capacity of 185 hp. With. After a major update, the crossover received more economical engines: 2.4- and 3-liter (182 and 255 hp). Fuel consumption is quite acceptable: in the city – 10.7-14.7 liters, on the highway – 7.3-10.2 liters (depending on configuration), in the mixed – 9-12 liters. Acceleration to hundreds – 6.8-10.8 seconds (also depending on the modification). Maximum speed – 190-230 km / h.

Since 2013, top versions have been produced with a 3.6-liter engine with a capacity of 301 hp. With. Modifications appeared with a 3-liter engine with a capacity of not 255, but 264 hp. With.

All modifications received an automatic 6-speed gearbox (instead of 5-speed). Complete sets with front and all-wheel drive have been created.

Suspension – independent, spring (like the first generation).

Advantages and disadvantages

crossover exterior 2009-2017 still looks modern, presentable;

reliability (over the years of operation, only minor repairs);

recognized as the safest car in 2014;

smooth running, controllability;

soft illumination of the dashboard;

wear-resistant upholstery;

ergonomic chairs, comfortable adjustable rear sofa, driver’s seat – electrically adjustable;

large trunk;

acceptable fuel consumption;

comfortable level of silence in the cabin (when driving);

unpretentious, there are no problems with the availability of spare parts.
