Aston Martin beginning of history

Vantage at Aston Martin began to be used in the middle of the 20th century. In 1951, this was the name of the “charged” modification of the Aston Martin DB2 coupe. Its in-line atmospheric “six” developed 126 forces instead of the base 106. Then the Vantage prefix in the name for the same reason was given to the DB4 models (produced in 1961-1963), DB5 (1963-1965) and DB6 (1965-1969). But then Vantage turned into an independent model.

In 1972, the British introduced the Aston Martin AM Vantage coupe. The stunningly beautiful steel body 4.6 m long hid a rear-wheel drive chassis with a two-lever front and a De Dion-type suspension with a Watt mechanism at the rear. The in-line six-cylinder engine developed by Tadeusz Marek developed 287 hp. and worked in tandem with a five-speed manual transmission. The model was discontinued in 1973. A total of 70 cars were made, of which only two were left-hand drive.

In 1977, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage appeared. The firm marketed it as the first British supercar. The V8 5.3 engine was inherited from Lagonda, but other camshafts, carburetors and exhaust manifolds were installed for this model. At first, the power was 380 hp, and then, over time, the figure reached 396, even later – 409 hp. Also, from 1986 to 1989, a factory package of improvements X-Pack was offered, with which the return increased to 409-457 “horses”.

Even the slowest versions reached 97 km/h in 5.3 seconds with a top speed of 270 km/h. In 1987, the V8 Vantage starred in the James Bond movie “Sparks from the Eyes” with Timati Dalton. In total, until 1989, 534 cars were built (342 coupes and 192 Volante convertibles).

The next Aston Martin V8 Vantage of 1993 turned into a real monster. The car, based on the platform of the Virage model, looked brutal. It was noticeably wider and lower than its donor, and trampled the ground with massive 18-inch wheels. The Vantage also received stiffer suspension and improved brakes. But the main thing is a miracle engine! Two mechanical superchargers were attached to the G8 5.3, which brought the return to 557 forces and 745 Newton meters. Acceleration to 97 km / h took only 4.6 seconds, and the maximum speed reached 300 km / h. Limit? No matter how!

In 1998, the British, like a beast, launched the Aston Martin V8 Vantage V600 on the market. In this two-ton colossus, the V8 5.3 engine has already developed 608 forces. But the motorists did not calm down on this either. In 1999, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Aston Martin’s victory at Le Mans, the British brought the V8 Vantage Le Mans coupe to the Geneva Motor Show. With the upgraded V8 5.3 removed 612 forces and space 820 N•m. Ejection to a hundred took 3.9 s, and the maximum speed was 320 km / h. The equipment list included Koni sports shock absorbers, thickened anti-roll bars, magnesium alloy wheels. At the same time, Connolly genuine leather and Wilton wool carpets reigned in the cabin. 40 of these machines were made, and in total, until 2000, 280 V8 Vantage two-doors were produced (of which nine were open cars).
